Why Are We Building This Space?
Our goal at Sunbeam has always been to provide a safe, caring environment for each child to learn through play, exploration and discovery. As we have intentionally grown throughout the last 5 years, we have expanded our facilities and reach to include a childcare program, which has enabled us to cater to the growing numbers of working parent households.
Since I began at Sunbeam, one of my dreams was to expand our outdoor play space and learning environment. As an educator and a parent, I am convinced that children thrive when they play outside. In a world where technology and screens can often demand their attention, having a safe and creative space outdoors, that engages their imagination, can make a world of difference to a child’s mental, physical and emotional health.
A simple stick becomes a fairy wand, a rock becomes a treasure, and a slide or climbing frame is used 100 different ways to encourage both individual play and teamwork.
We believe that by creating this outdoor space, our preschool will add another important dimension to our learning and curriculum. A high quality outdoor education space can help shape a child’s opinion of nature for their lifetime, and encourage them to wonder at God’s creation.
I want to thank you personally for contributing to Sunbeam and in particular, for your belief and contribution to this outdoor play space. My hope is that it will only add to the wonderful memories that children are making and contribute to a greater sense of connection and community for families

The Goal
We need your help to raise the three phases of the project. The first phase has already begun. We are building a large and interactive outdoor learning center. This summer project will cost $200,000 and we have about $60,000 already saved for it. The fall project will construct a new parking and storage area where the current Sunbeam playground is and most importantly we will be expanding the inside classroom space to be able to bring on new kids. We will need another $200,000 for that.
So much work has gone into research and design. This is not something we take on without a lot of consideration. The need for new daycare space is a provincial and federal priority. We hope to precure grants. Yet we know the bulk of our funding will come from people like you.
